Sea Moss & How It Can Help Your Period!

Hey, it's Team Twistie 😎

You know we love to investigate ways to beat PMS so we invited Danielle Stewart from It's Electrik to share the benefits of Sea Moss on the menstrual cycle. See what she shared with us below!

"Sea moss is an algae that forms in various colors from yellow, to purple, to red, and is

technically known as Chondrus Crispus.

It grows naturally along the Atlantic shorelines of Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. Being incredibly nutritious, it became known throughout Europe as the super-food of the sea. From improving emotional health to promoting healthy skin, there are numerous benefits of sea moss for the body, especially the menstrual cycle.

Sea moss is very high in nutrients and minerals, which can help if your menstrual issues are

caused by mineral deficiencies. Not only does it contain vitamin C, antioxidants, vitamin B2, and

B9, it also has iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc in better concentration compared to most

fruits and vegetables. This superfood also has antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory

properties which becomes of immense help for the body during our current COVID-19

pandemic. Sea moss also has prebiotic effects and facilitates the development of healthy

bacteria in the gut. Due to its ability to clear phlegm and mucus buildup in the respiratory tract, it is used to fight against respiratory ailments such as:

  • Pneumonia

  • Asthma

  • Tuberculosis

By supplementing the diet with sea moss, individuals who do not consume seafood, meat, and

poultry, and also anemic individuals can meet their body’s iron requirement. Since sea moss has ample amounts of iodine, it is an exceptional way to treat the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Due to it being a thyroid supporter, adding sea moss to the diets of individuals suffering from irregular menstrual cycles can correct irregularities, as well as reduce the effects of PMS, which is primarily due to a mineral deficiency.

PMS is associated with mood swings, irritability of nerves, gas, abdominal cramps, headaches, body spasms, short term memory loss, etc. With blood leaving the body during the menses, the brain does not get enough of the minerals: carbon, copper, calcium and potassium, that it requires.

The thyroid gland (a major factor in weight gain and loss) is also not going to get the necessary amount of iodine it needs to regulate body weight. With a major loss of iron, anemia is going to undoubtedly occur and cause a host of ill-effects such as weakness, nausea, and fatigue. PMS can be corrected by counteracting mineral deficiency by giving the body more minerals before, during and after the menstrual

cycle. With sea moss containing 92 out of the 102 minerals that the body needs, it's a great

mineral boosting superfood to help support the menstrual cycle.

Sea moss is tasteless so you can add it to a variety of dishes and even use it on the skin. In

fact, it's an especially great plant-based substitute for gelatin or other thickening agents. You

can mix it in:

  1. smoothies

  2. juice

  3. stews

  4. soups

Whether taken with a smoothie or in the form of a capsule, the world is opening up to the benefits of sea moss and this superfood is gaining the rightful attention of health enthusiasts worldwide."

We're so grateful for this lesson in Sea Moss and will definitely be exploring more ways to incorporate it into our diets.
